Famous tennis player: Michael Chang

America has given many wonderful players to a sport like tennis. Like other fields of life, Americans have proved their worth in tennis too. Let’s discuss one of the wonderful and youngest tennis players of America. Michael Chang is one of the best tennis players of America. He is an American Tennis star, Chang is also the luckiest youngest player in the history of tennis to win a Grand Slam title. He has been among the top ten players of the world for many years. However, Chang never hit the World No.1 as his best ever was World No.2. At the age of 16, Michael Chang won his first major title in 1988 at San Francisco. A year later, Chang won the French Open by defeating Stefan Edberg. Another reason behind his popularity was the fact that no one had ever won a French Open since 1995. Chang was lucky enough that he was listed in top five players in the world, which was a record for being so young. Unfortunately, Michael Chang could not continue his career on the high as he showed in the beginning of his career. Luckily, he reached French Open final in 1995 but lost in the final. Although Chang had beaten tough opponents in previous matches but his performance in the final match was criticized heavily by the public. In 1966 Chang also reached finals of Australian Open and Us Open but luck was not with him. Unfortunately he lost to Boris Becker in Australian and in US Open he was defeated by Pete Sampras. Had Chang won any of these Grand Slams he would have achieved World No.1rank but it was not to be. In 2003 he got retired after failing to win anything major for three years.

Popular Tennis Player Rod Laver

History of the world is full of sports and entertainment. People play games not only to keep them physically fit but to reduce their tensions. Tennis is one of the most popular sports of all times. People play, watch and admire this game. The history of tennis is saturated with big names. There are some tennis players who played better than other and Rod laver is one of those big names. He played and played very well.
Best player of his time, Rod Laver was born in Australia. He remained number one rank for seven consecutive years, which is still a record that has broken by no one. As an amateur player he won all the four Grand Slam titles and when he played as a professional player he won all the titles again. He is the only title in the whole history of tennis who has done this.
Power game was not Rod Laver’s thing as he was not a huge player. However Laver developed a perfect serve and an amazing volley to cover for that. The topspin of Laver was considered deadliest. His lobs and wrist work with topspins was among his most dangerous weapons. Technically, he was perfect as he had developed a great variety of serve and attaching topspin lobs. Laver was astonishing at controlling the slice.
When the Open Era started, he was the first one to win Wimbledon by beating Tony Roche. Out of 32 he won 18 singles tournaments that he participated in year 1969. Laver win loss record at that time was 106-6, which is wonderful no matter how people see it. When he became 30 years old, he continued winning at an impressive eight percent win record. He has a career win percentage of 80 which is simply wonderful considering ATP only list twenty titles. Laver won another 180 before the Open Era.
